The Natural History of Selborne
2 CDs. c.148 minutes. Recorded and produced by John Paterson in association with the Gilbert White Society. Double album featuring extracts from Gilbert White's letters, read by Benjamin Whitrow to a background of illustrative wildlife sounds and atmospheres.

The Natural History of Selborne is a collection of Gilbert White's letters to Thomas Pennant and Daines Barrington, first published in 1788. In these letters he tells of his observations of local wildlife and discusses contemporary (folklore) explanations for the various natural phenomena observed; the letters reveal many tantalising details about the English countryside of the time and the thoughts of local country people towards the land around them.
